Many of our flowering favorites have succumbed to the cold, but not before producing a beautiful fall display.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/101_1731.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-165\" title=\"101_1731\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/101_1731-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Roses in the landscape\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/101_1731-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/101_1731-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/101_1731-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Roses for fall color?\u00a0 Not something we typically think of having in our fall landscape&#8230;..but we should.\u00a0 Knock Out roses produce some of their best color in the fall when moisture is more abundant and the temperatures are cooler.\u00a0 You can typically count on your Knock Out roses to bloom through to the end of October each year, sometimes even into early November.\u00a0 It takes a hard frost to stop them for the season.\u00a0 Roses are just one of the great performing fall flowering shrubs.\u00a0 How about blue mist spireas or hydrangeas (my personal favorite)?\u00a0 Blue mist spireas provide a refreshing punch of blue color that&#8217;s typically scarce in the fall landscape.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/caryopteris.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-166\" title=\"caryopteris\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/caryopteris-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"caryopteris\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/caryopteris-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/caryopteris-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/caryopteris-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And although most hydrangeas typically stopped blooming months earlier (unless you have a repeat bloomer like Endless Summer), their existing flowers change to darker, more intense colors in the fall season.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/hydrangea-in-fall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-167\" title=\"hydrangea in fall\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/hydrangea-in-fall-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"hydrangea\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/hydrangea-in-fall-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/hydrangea-in-fall-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mainstreetlandscape.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/hydrangea-in-fall-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some other shrubs that provide late blooms are glossy abelias, encore azaleas, fall blooming camellias and even butterfly bushes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, we have already experienced hard frosts this fall season.
